UK Island Breaks - The Shetland Isles

You don't need to go to the Caribbean or Greece to enjoy beautiful islands – it's possible to have a fantastic island holiday without leaving the British Isles.

The Shetland Isles
Show up for: Up Helly Aa, which takes place on the last Tuesday of January, is a frankly mad festival in which a Viking boat is set on fire. It's generally an excuse for a good old drinking binge.
Do: Drink the most northerly beer in Britain at the Valhalla Brewery (www.valhallabrewery.co.uk) in Ulst. Tours of the (small scale) operation are also available. Close by is Out Stack, Britain's most northerly point.
Getting there: Get the Northlink ferry or British Airways flight from Aberdeen.
