Hong Kong Destination Guide
Hong Kong
Corbis
- Hong Kong’s obsession with ramen and dim sum can be noted everywhere. For the best dim sum in town, try getting a table at and Tim Ho Wan, a 15-table eaterie that is always rammed. For ramen soups, try Butao Ramen (18-39 On Lane Street, Lan Kwai Fong, Central). You’ll be able to identify it by the insane line of people whirling around the corner from its front door.
- Escaping the bustling confusion of Hong Kong is as easy as finding your way to Chi Lin Nunnery on Chi Lin Drive. The elaborate network of Tang Dynasty wood pavilions are isolated by gardens of manicured bonsai and beautiful lotus ponds. Come in the early morning when the fog is just lifting.
- Karaoke bars in Hong Kong are inexplicably legendary. Who knows why the pastime took hold in these islands, but it's here and in a major way. Try out the infamous Neway Bar, which is a cult classic and a good place to get your feet wet for the first time.
- New to Hong Kong’s hotel scene is the W Hotel Hong Kong. Stay here if you want to be at the centre of the modish restaurant district, West Kowloon. But the hotel’s own incentives - a bliss spa, a huge chill out public living room with wireless, and a breathtaking views from its rooftop and sun deck - may mean you never want to leave.
