Warsaw-Frédéric Chopin Airport (tel: 650 41 00; www.lotnisko-chopina.pl) is 10km (6mi) south of the city centre; it handles all domestic and international flights. The cheapest way of getting from the airport to the city (and vice versa) is by the frequent city bus 175, 05:00 - 23:00 ), which will take you all the way to the Miodowa stop in the Old Town, passing en route along al Jerozolimskie, ul Nowy Świat and ul Krakowskie Przedmieście. If you arrive in the wee hours, night bus 611 links the airport with Warszawa Centralna train station frequently between 23:00 and 05:00 . Alternatively you can catch a taxi from the rank outside the arrivals hall - just make sure it's a licensed vehicle.
Warsaw has two PKS bus terminals. Dworzec Warszawa Zachodnia (Western Bus Terminal; tel: 822 48 11; al Jerozolimskie 144), west of the city centre, serves international routes and domestic routes towards the south and west. Dworzec Warszawa Stadion (Stadium Bus Terminal; tel: 818 15 89; cnr ul Zamojskiego & ul Targówa), on the east side of the river, handles all domestic bus traffic to the north, east and southeast. Polski Express coaches run daily services to many Polish cities. They depart from Warsaw's Frédéric Chopin airport and pick up passengers at their own bus stop on al Jana Pawła II, near Warszawa Centralna train station.
All the major international car rental companies have offices in Warsaw. Polish companies offer cheaper rates, but may have fewer English-speaking staff.
Warsaw has several train stations, but the one that most travellers will use almost exclusively is Warszawa Centralna (al Jerozolimskie 54); it handles the majority of domestic trains and all international services.
Warsaw's streets are full of potholes - some more dangerous than others - so driving demands constant attention.
Warsaw's integrated public transport system is operated by Zarząd Transportu Miejskiego (City Transportation Board; 24-hr info-line tel: 94 84; www.ztm.waw.pl) and consists of a network of tram, bus and metro lines, all using the same ticketing system. The main routes operate from about 05:00 - 23:00 , and service is frequent and pretty reliable, though it's often crowded during rush hours. After 23:00 , several night bus routes link major suburbs to the city centre.
Taxis in Warsaw are easily available and not too expensive by Western standards. Beware of 'pirate' or 'mafia' taxis, which do not display a phone number or company logo.
