All in all, the half-awake visitor to Venice
should have no problems. Still, the presence
of so many foreigners inevitably encourages
pickpockets and like-minded small-time
criminals. A modicum of awareness and keeping
anything valuable well hidden should be
enough protection.
A particular problem on the Isola del Tronchetto
is false water-taxi drivers. These people
may wear official-looking caps and
badges and approach the freshly parked
tourist with stories of having the only kind of
vessel available to transfer people from Tronchetto
to destinations elsewhere in Venice.
This is rubbish, as vaporetti call here regularly.
