  1. Locals will recommend that you eat at the Barbados Coffee Bean Bistro for its lovely baked goods for breakfast, and fish soups and salads for lunch. But generally you will find good, simple eateries all over the island, and don’t leave without trying one of its famous flying fish sandwiches.
  2. Sample some of Barbados’ vintage tipples on a Barbados Rum Tour. There are three operating on the island and they are all decent ways to spend an afternoon. The Mount Gay Rum Tour is reputed to be the best out of the three, but if the tours here are full try Foursquare Rum Factory and Heritage Park or the Cockspur Beach Club.
  3. Go to any part of the coast to find a beautiful white sand beach. Beaches in the south and west coast tend to be the tourists' favourite, while beaches like North Point and St Joseph are windy, with rough waters that tend to attract a glut of adventurous surfers.
  4. Coastal sightseeing tours are a quick and affordable way to acquaint yourself with Barbados. Most tend to hit the same points of interest, stopping in places like Miami Beach, Bathsheba, Cherry Tree Hill and Speightstown. They are all the same, and most leave from Bridgetown in the early morning and return before lunch.
  5. The Barbados Museum and Historical Society is worth a trip, especially for the beautiful 19th century building that it’s in. The collection of mostly Colonial and modern history paints a clear picture of Barbados over the past two centuries.
