Dubai

What it's great for: Ostentatious malls.
Why? There's a can do mentality in Dubai that nowhere else can quite match, and this leads to some ridiculously outlandish shopping centres. The Ibn Battuta Mall is themed on six different countries (from China to Spain), while the Mall of the Emirates contains its very own ski slope. Best of the lot is the Souq Madinat Jumeirah, which is styled as a giant Arabian fortress with its very own waterways.
Alternatively... The Gold Souk is nowhere near as flashy as the other, but it is the largest gold trading centre in the world. Prepare for financial death by a thousand jewellery shops.
