Top 10 extreme cuisines: Scotland

For those whose culinary boundaries end at steak and chips, travelling can be a stomach-churning as well as an eye-opening experience. We've found the strangest cuisines around the globe and counted them down in order of oddness.

10. Scotland
Perhaps the most famous strange local delicacy of them all, the haggis is a complex concoction containing a sheep's heart, liver and lungs. The main ingredients are minced in amongst oatmeal, suet, onion, spices and stock and then slow-cooked inside the animal's stomach for an hour.

It is traditional for haggis to be eaten on January 25th - Burns night. The Scottish poet's Address To The Haggis is read out before tucking in.

If the recipe doesn't grab you, then never fear as you can try Scotland's latest donation to the culinary world - the deep-fried Mars Bar.
