Mayan pyramids stand upon craggy black cliffs above bays of fine, ivory-white sand. Beyond, the Caribbean Sea stretches away to the horizon.

This is Tulum, one of the defining romantic images of Mexico. The ancient city was once known as 'Zuma' or 'Dawn', and that's probably the best time if you're hoping to avoid the crowds and indulge in some Mayan-style nookie.

Try out your latest moves in the Templo de las Pinturas, while enjoying the wonderful, if faded, frescoes. Or get into the mood at the Templo del Dios del Viento (Temple of the Wind God) with charming coastal views. But be careful not to cause any damage to those ancient ruins.
