On safari: Kibale National Park, Uganda
A ten day trip around the national parks of Kibale and Queen Elizabeth as well as the fabulously-named Biwindi Impenetrable Forest will bring you face to face with gorillas galore and primates aplenty - this is monkey heaven.
What to see: The largest concentration of chimps in Africa, and Central African species such as the Grey-cheeked Mangabey and Red Colobus. You're also likely to spot leopards, bushpigs, ankole cattle and elephants.
We suggest: Lingering in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, famous for the kind of countryside which inspired Winston Churchill to call Uganda 'the pearl of Africa'...and tree-climbing lions!
Stay: The Ndali Lodge is located on the rim of an extinct volcano, now covered in glorious woods and overlooks crater lakes. Decorated in stone and thatch with oil lamps and traditional arts and crafts, it has a feel of old Africa.
Time to go: From late December to late February (dry season).
