Hot destinations for 2008: Albanian Riviera
If you’re wondering where to head for your holiday this year, here’s five new destinations that everyone will be talking about in 2008. You heard it here first…
The Albanian Riviera, Albania
Where's that? Just above Greece. It’s a gorgeous stretch of sandy beaches on the south-west coast of Albania.
Why?
It's probably the last place where you'll find deserted beaches in Europe.
What is there to do?
Not much - which is precisely the point. Head to the village of Dhermi, a beautiful strip of oatmeal-coloured sand which you’ll have all to yourself. You can spend the night in one of the little beach huts – complete with double bed, shower and loo - for as little as £20.
What else?
Head to Qeparo and stroll up to the old town at the top of the mountain, where whitewashed cottages are scattered around the hillside. From here you can see all the way to Corfu, Greece, on a clear day.
When to go?
May to September. You’ll get great weather and zero crowds.
