Wales

For seals, outdoor activities and scenery, Wales cannot be beaten.

Spot playful seals and nesting puffins, guillemots and razorbills at Skomer island off the coast of Pembrokeshire – go back and see them with their new-born calves later in the year. Take a boat ride to Ramsey Island and see nesting chough and peregrine falcons.

Further north, Snowdonia is a child's playground with the cascading Swallow Falls, canoeing, mountain biking, climbing and other adventure activities – hire the equipment and enjoy the thrill.

Take the train on the Llanberis, Llangolen, Ffestiniog and Snowdon Mountain railways, explore 13th-century Conway or Caernarfon castles and collect shells on the Shell Island – with 200 varieties, it will keep the kids amused for hours.
