British Seaside Resorts - Skegness
These days it seems all our neighbours spend their summer hols in exotic, distant lands. Whatever happened to a good, old-fashioned jaunt to the British seaside? We wondered to ourselves. So we packed our buckets and spades and went in search of the traditional British seaside resort...
Where: Skegness
What? Skegness is so bracing. That's the town's slogan. But don't let it put you off. Known as Skeg, skeggy or, improbably, Skegvegas, this Lincolnshire town has got it all; sand dunes, crazy golf, herds of donkeys in silly outfits and a pier full of amusement arcades.
Check out: Botton's Pleasure Beach, where you can ride the rollercoaster, go dizzy on the merry-go-round and practice your audition for Britain's Worst Driver on the dodgem cars.
Seaside street cred: What could be more British seaside than a Butlins? The first ever one was opened here in 1936, giving this Lincolnshire town instant saucy seaside credentials.
