British Seaside Resorts - Brighton

These days it seems all our neighbours spend their summer hols in exotic, distant lands. Whatever happened to a good, old-fashioned jaunt to the British seaside? We wondered to ourselves. So we packed our buckets and spades and went in search of the traditional British seaside resort...

Where: Brighton

What? Never mind those huge, noisy pebbles and freezing water, London-by-the-Sea has one of Europe's largest marinas, a nudist beach, monuments a-plenty and saucy nightlife.

Check out: The Taj Mahal-style Royal Pavillion, built for George IV in the early 1800s. The West Pier dates back to 1866 and there are plans in motion to erect a 600 ft-high observation tower in its place. Hitch a ride on the world's oldest electric railway from Palace Pier to Black Rock.

Seaside street cred: Oh, and talking about rock, sink your teeth into a stick of the Brighton original, while perusing the funfairs and arcades of the glorious Palace Pier.
