Where: Blackpool

What? Seven miles of magnificent sand spread either side of Britain's answer to the Eiffel Tower.

Check out: Blackpool's famous Illuminations date back to Victorian times, when the town was the first in the country to go electric. These days it's not just a lot of light bulbs tied together- computer-controlled fibre optics bathe the five mile-long seafront in dazzling colour. Kids will tug your arm towards the Pleasure Beach, home to Europe's most terrifying roller-coaster.

Seaside street cred: Golden Mile is candyfloss heaven. With donkeys and ice cream parlours everywhere, amusement arcades and three piers, Blackpool is the iconic British seaside resort.
