Forget David Attenborough, David Beckham has turned Amazon rainforest explorer for a new BBC One documentary - and has been sharing the first pictures from the programme on Facebook.

The special 90-minute documentary, called David Beckham Into The Unknown, follows the star and two of his friends as they explore the Brazilian rainforest for BBC One, captured by world renowned Director Anthony Mandler.

The football star spent two weeks in the Amazon cooking, camping and fishing to discover the 'real' Brazil ahead of the World Cup 2014.

Mr Mandler uses the latest Red Epic filming technology to capture the exploits of Beckham and his friends in the programme, which airs on BBC One in the UK this June.

Viewers will see Beckham fly 5,000 miles from London to South America, staying briefly in Rio de Janeiro and then on to Manaus in the heart of the rainforest.

From there, he and his friends, Derek White and Dave Gardner, travel by motorbike and boat, guided by locals as they visit the tiny community of Angelin, cross the river Negro to the banks of the Cuieras River, and travel deeper into the rainforest to meet the remote Yanomami tribe.

David uploaded the new pics to his Facebook page, writing: "Here are some new pics from my recent trip to the Amazon. The documentary appears for the first time on BBC One this June."

Helen Jackson, Managing Director, Content, BBC Worldwide said: "This is an unforgettable documentary set in the heart of the dense Amazon rainforest following David Beckham. Through his eyes, audiences will experience life in the jungle, something so distant from David's life on and off the pitch and in the glare of the world's media."
