A Turkish Airlines plane carrying 114 people made an emergency landing when it caught fire after being struck by lightning early this morning (25 January).

According to reports from the Associated Press, the aircraft was travelling from Istanbul. Its right engine caught fire as it was preparing to land at Izmir Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport.

This video, taken by an onlooker, shows flames leaping out of the engine as the plane descended.

According to Turkish TV reports, the pilot immediately activated the fire extinguishing gear, declared an emergency and landed safely.

No one was hurt, says the airline.
