Holidaymakers bound for Turkey were forced to spend the night in a Cardiff hotel last night, when their Thomas Cook flight was grounded due to a shortage of cabin crew.
According to Wales Online, the flight to Antalya was due to depart from Cardiff Airport at 8.15pm, but passengers were told that they would not be able to fly until this morning.
Airport duty manager Neil Evans said that the flight had been rescheduled for 7.10am today, and staff were doing everything they could to find accommodation for passengers who were unable to return home for the night.
He explained that crewing issues were "a very unfortunate fact of life in aviation" but said he was unsure of the exact reasons why they plane could not take off. He said that other delays could have had a "knock-on effect on crew scheduled for the flight", or that some or all of the crew could have reached the limit of hours for which they are legally allowed to fly.
