Watch: Girl 'faces off' with African lion at zooYouTube

It takes some nerve to calmly stand in front of a huge lion that's trying to 'paw' you - even if it is safely behind a thick glass wall.

But little Devin James, who was celebrating her sixth birthday at Boston's Franklin Park Zoo, appeared to have no fear whatsoever during her big cat close-up.

And, while her big brother can be heard saying "I am so freaked out", Devin even seemed to calm the lion by stroking the glass in front of his face.

Her mum, Heidi James, who shot the video, told the NY Daily News: "I think she really enjoyed it. She doesn't scare easily. She really bonded with that guy.

"Not for one second did she feel it was threatening in anyway, whereas we as grown-ups would think differently."

See the cute video below:

Back in May, a lionness called Kya looked like it was attempting to eat a baby who'd visited its enclosure - but it was dressed in a little zebra suit, so what did his parents expect?

And, like Devin, little Jack also seemed completely unfazed by Kya's attempts to chomp him.
