An Irish tourist who fell 20 metres down a cliff rock face while on holiday in Ibiza is recovering after calling a friend at home.
Mark Somers, 39, broke his ankle in the ordeal, which saw him lying unconscious on rocks overnight before coming round several hours later.
Unable to move and with the tide rising fast, he was overjoyed to see that his mobile was still working, before realising he didn't know the 112 emergency services number for Spain.
In desperation, he called a friend 1,700km away back at home, who alerted Irish authorities, who then passed the information on to the National Rescue Centre in Madrid.
Local police and fire crews were then directed to the scene of the accident in Ibiza's Old Town, where Mr Somers was rescued by a dinghy and rushed to hospital.
A police source told The Sun: "He's very lucky to be alive after such a fall."
Mr Somers was yesterday recovering after surgery to fix his broken ankle.
