Prince Harry is believed to be planning a five-week trek to the South Pole in November and December 2013.
Last year he joined four soldiers on the first part of their Arctic trek to raise money for the charity Walking With The Wounded, of which he is the patron.
Military commitments meant that he was unable to complete the entire 13-day journey to the North Pole, but The Express reports that he is now hoping to undertake the longer trip to Antarctica.
A source said: "The will is certainly there but it is all a question of timing."
Last week Prince Harry collected a humanitarian award in Washington, and paid tribute to the wounded soldiers currently attempting to climb Everest.
He also paid tribute to the four former servicemen he joined on the trek to the North Pole last April and said that he had "struggled to keep up with them".
