The bizarre things that people take from their hotel roomsGetty

If your bathroom cabinet is full of complimentary toiletries that you've taken home after a hotel stay, you'll understand how tempting it is to slip a small souvenir of your stay into your suitcase.

But according to Best Western hotels, some guests just aren't content with pocketing a mini shampoo or shoe shine kit.

The hotel chain has revealed that one guest managed to sneak out with an entire suit of armour, while another made off with a 12ft model of Concorde and a leather two-piece suite.

A third guest managed to clear out a whole room, taking the bedspread, curtains, plasma TV, hairdryer, kettle and cups and saucers - leaving nothing but the bed.

Best Western hotels said it had also had plants taken from gardens and, currently, Christmas decorations are popular with light-fingered guests, with nativity scenes disappearing from some of the groups 270 hotels.

Best Western's head of marketing, Tim Wade, said: "Occasionally we get a rogue who takes home more than the odd said. It appears the more unusual items are, the more they appeal to light-fingered guests."
